Check out the new sidewalk we poured

This was poured in one day about 30 yards….no cracks!!! Yet!

A cool new site I found

I was online the other day and found a cool new site that looks like it is only for Marin County residents…but the idea is cool check it out when you can http://www.marinlocalsearch.com it looks like all the businesses all have online videos on the site. I was checking out the concrete in novato section and didn’t see anyone yet….I think i’ll see what I have to do to get in there…until next time. Novato Concrete.

Novato Concrete

November 8th, 2008

Decorative Concrete in Novato – about 5 times a week plus or a minus a few…We get asked ‘should we replace our concrete or should we go over the top with decorative concrete”. The answer of course is…it depends. I know I hate that answer but it’s the best one.

Cost is the biggest factor. I would always go with new Concrete – every time. If you want the look and feel you can get out of decorative concrete then over lay it after wards.

Problem: That is really expensive. Kind of defeats the purpose for most people. The reality is with decorative concrete you can only get certain looks and feels with overlays. Like the pool coping in the below pictures…you cant do that with natural concrete. That is stenciled in after the coping or concrete is in place.

When pouring natural concrete in Novato you can do really cool stamps and patterns that you can’t do with overlays so again it really depends on what you want. In every event you need to choose a contractor who knows what they are doing. That’s the biggest difference. The biggest issue is always cost and deciding what you want before you contact the contractors…always do your own research to see what you think something might cost. And Always get several prices to compare against each other.

You cannot use square footage to calculate what something may cost. For example, there will be cost difference between you pool deck and a driveway as one is easier to access than the other. Does that make sense? Hope so….if not give us a call, we would be glad to help. Until next time….remember Concrete Cracks!

Novato Concrete…Looking out for you!

October 31st, 2008

It’s Halloween,

I went in to the ‘loop’ today, it’s the 24 hour fitness extension for Novato. If you saw me you would never know I workout almost daily. Had some back issues and it makes my back feel better, plus it allows me to eat and drink like a dog. Anyhow, What’s this have to do with Concrete?

The Concrete floor is a Deep Blue Acid Stain. I like it. You should check it out for yourself to see if you like that look but Acid Staining is awesome. You can really transform the concrete. You can make it look like marble, stone and lots of other designs. Only problem is with aged concrete and the reaction of the acid often your not sure what the final look will be until the Job is complete.

At Novato Concrete we always recommend you do a test section to see what your up against. If you are after a certain look it’s the only way to do it.

Another thing that is really cool is that the cracks accent the acid staining and the concrete and it almost looks like the cracks were part of the design (or they were hiding the cracks). I have always liked that look. It makes me want to add cracks to all my existing concrete at my place….as we all know concrete cracks and once it starts it’s hard to stop.

If you are thinking of checking out acid stain, another spot I send people all the time is Chevy’s – I try to go with them when they invite me…not to look at the concrete…I have seen it a thousand times. I like the food. Yeah ok,  i’m busted…it’s the Margarita’s that is the big attraction. After a couple of those and all of a sudden people don’t care if there concrete is cracked or not. I have signed many a contract this way only to have it revoked when the customer wakes up the next morning, head pounding and all…either way it’s a fun time. Check it out….

Novato Concrete Stain 101:

Since staining concrete in Novato for decorative purposes is a relatively new industry, it pays to start by shedding a little light on the process. Concrete stain in Novato refers to the process of applying an acidic compound to a concrete slab in order to prep it for the application of different chemical stains that react with compounds in the concrete itself; staining concrete in Novato is also referred to as “acid staining” for just that reason.

The result is nothing short of stunning. Concrete can be stained to resemble everything from distressed leather to polished marble and glazed stone. And if you’re really feeling daring, you can also use concrete stamping, sawing, or other forms of patterning in order to create a concrete floor that resembles tile, is ingrained with decorative patterns, or resembles rough stone or brick. The possibilities are virtually endless.
